Consumed largely by recent US political news – the assassination attempt on Donald Trump and Joe Biden stepping down from the presidential race – it has been easy to overlook other important developments that can impact an investors’ big picture. One of those is the threat of de-dollarization, as US sanctions on Russia continue to make the BRICS countries, as well as others, wary of being hand-cuffed to the US dollar.

In the beginning of July, the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Switzerland’s largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences, and Copenhagen Atomics, a Danish molten salt reactor developer, announced their large-scale experimental collaboration. The four-year agreement stands to put Europe in the pole position of the advanced nuclear technology field.

It should already be clear that we are entering a period of low visibility and high uncertainty. How things will play out, in what sequence, length of time, or level of severity, is impossible to say. There are too many unknowns at play. On the one hand, we are dancing on the edge of a debt crisis to the left, a geopolitical disaster to the right, and a socio-cultural war all around us. On the other hand, these big picture shifts present great opportunities for innovation, renewal, and repair. Investing in this kind of environment requires an agile balance of defense and offense.
